“We’ve been working on ‘Between Us’ for a year and a half,” Chaplin explains, recording all the tracks in New York City between 2003 and 2005. “I did all the music… I wrote the songs with my friend Keith in my bedroom,” with Steve Barber arranging the album’s sumptuous strings.

But what its creator likes best about his latest effort is its purity and simplicity. “It’s the sort of album where you just stand there with a guitar,” Chaplin describes his new release on the Big Karma label. “There’s not too much adornment. You just sing and play. It’s an album where you can hear the singer sing the songs. You like him or you don’t. It’s very honest.”
